Share your Recovery Story

Release shame. Spread hope.

You do not need to be perfect to celebrate progress. This page is not limited to “happily ever after” stories (although those are welcome). If you are further along in recovery than you were a year, or two, or ten ago, please tell us about where you were, where you are now, and how you got here. Your progress will give another person hope. And those of us who have felt helpless, hopeless and trapped in our eating disorders, know how important a word hope is.

Sharing recovery stories also helps release shame, both for those who tell their stories and for those who read them. When you share your challenges and victories, you tell yourself and your readers “You are not alone and you do not need to hide. Our challenges are a valid part of who we are and we can use them to support each other”.

There are no particular submission guidelines or specifications; your personal recovery process (and your way of telling it) is unique and beautiful. Poems, essays, and short stories are all welcome. Write from your heart.

If you would like a prompt to get you started, feel free to use any of the following:

What is a challenge that you have overcome? What enabled you to overcome it?

What was a meaningful moment in your recovery? Describe that moment in as much detail as possible.

When in your recovery journey did you begin to see progress? What event helped you notice that you were moving forward? What led up to that event?

How have your struggles around food influenced your career choice? In what ways do you hope to give back to the recovery community?

What message would you like to share with others who have an eating disorder? What personal experience showed you the importance of this message?

If you've had ANY personal experience of finding peace around food, overcoming destructive eating habits, or letting go of weight stigma, please share it!
